In today's economy everyone is looking to save a few bucks, and when it comes to your wedding why not! I was doing some recent shopping at Costco and in the checkout line came across the recent Costco Connection titled, Weddings by Costco. Wait....What?! Yup! Duh...what a great idea!!

Think about it, according to the Association for Wedding Professionals, a couple in the US will spend roughly $19,581.00 (between $14,686 and $24,476) not including the cost of the honeymoon or engagement ring.  WOW! That's a lot of dough!

Need Great Invitations or Cards?

I was approached by my friend Angie, she owns Flowlines Design Flowlines Design, Inc., and asked if she could use my family's photo for samples on her web site for holiday cards.  My response..."You want to use MY family photo?!" Wow!! What an honor! So, I sent over a few pics and waited to see our shining moment.

Have You Ever Used Shutterfly?

I had used Shutterfly once for business when I had worked for BeautyChatBlog.com about 3 years ago. I remember that the program was VERY easy to use. I had made some thank you cards for vendors that had used us to review their products. I had uploaded the blogs log and an image of all the "Beauty Chatters". It was really cute.

Other than that, my only other experience with Shutterfly was a gift I had received for being an assistant coach for my son’s soccer team. I had received a little photo book filled with various images from the season. It was really cute, and you could tell that a lot of thought and time had gone into it.

So, when I was asked to do this blog post (from my Mommy Bloggers Club), I thought, why not! I could get reacquainted with them and open up a huge possibility for some great and thoughtful Christmas gifts and possibly my Christmas cards!!

Save the Date!

It seems as the years fly by...literally, people are more busy than ever. I don't remember people being this busy when I was a kid. Things seemed to happen slowly, not as fast as they do today. I mean, I can't believe Cooper is going to be a year old in 7 weeks! Where does the time go?

Well, as people get busy, and time moves faster, it is a good idea to notify them in advance of upcoming events (wedding, parties, etc). I like receiving an advanced notice that there is an upcoming wedding. It makes it much easier to plan, you know...get the sitter and the hubby gets the time off!

Several of my friends have sent out "Save The Date (STD)" notices. They are usually a nice card accompanied by a refrigerator magnet that includes the event details and a nice photo of the couple. My friend Nicole designed and created her own Save the Date Magnet:

I did a little browsing and research on the Internet and found some really CUTE and CREATIVE ides:
1) Create a CD with all the Save The Date info on the front with a cute pic of the couple. When the CD is played it can have photos of the couple (birth to engagement).
2) Create a CD with all the Save The Date info on the front with a cute pic of the couple. When the CD is played it can have songs the couple likes.
3) Create a bookmark with the STD info and some photos
4) Lotto style(Party 411): This is fun for those who are hooked on lotto tickets, or those who might be having a destination event in Las Vegas!

5) Photo Booth (Young House Love): This is SO Cute! It really brings out a couples personalities. Here is another booth idea from a site with LOTS of Save the Date ides: JuneBug Weddings

6) Ticket Style (Party 411): This is just fun for so many reasons. Great for those who love sports, theater, movies etc.

Just remember, it's your event, if you can think it up, you can do it! Get creative, and have your Save The Date notice reflect you as a couple.

Here are a few pointers on sending these out:
1) Save The Date notice's are a MUST if you are having a destination wedding or event
2) Send them out 5-6 months in advance
3) If the wedding or event is during the holidays, a Save The Date notice is a MUST
4) A Save The Date notice is a MUST if the wedding encompasses the weekend (full of fun events)

Wedding Question Wednesday- Did you RSVP?

Today's question comes form Charlie P- "Is is appropriate to call people who have not RSVP in the time allotted?"

Well, Mr. P, in today's economic times, I we say...YES! With the cost of weddings going up, we feel that it is absolutely appropriate for you to call those guest who have neglected to RSVP and give their "Yay" or "Nay".

One idea I (Denice) had received while planning my own wedding was to number each response card and then place that corresponding number on my guest list. That way, if a card was returned to me with no name, I knew who it belonged to, and I could weed out the ones who did not RSVP. I did end up calling those individuals who did not RSVP, and believe it or not, there were quite a few who "thought" they sent in the response card or said they did, but it was lost in the mail.

I will say one thing, I ONLY think it is appropriate to call family or very close friends. I do NOT think it is appropriate to call co-workers, acquaintances or other invites that are not close to you. If you did, it may come off as rude or pushy.

Wedding Question Wednesday - No Children Please!

Our question today comes form Kacie-

"Is it proper to put no children please in the invites?

This is a fabulous question, one that I am sure causes much stress for many brides! I can also speak from personal experience on this one. I had to include this very message on my invitations due to spacing issues. It is a delicate subject, and you want to be sure you do not offend anyone.

Be sure you state it in a way that is non-offensive. Simply stating NO CHILDREN may offend those who have them. The way I did it was to state that there was an "Adult Reception immediately following the ceremony."

The one exception to my "Adult Reception" was that I let family members bring their children. But that was it!

I think the best thing to do is be honest. Ask yourself, "Why do I not want children at the event?" If you can't come up with a really good reason, then I would leave it off the invites. If you can, then make sure you do it in a way to not offend your guest. Just remember, they will be spending a lot of money on you and to attend your wedding.
